GreenStep Twinning Visit in Zaragoza

The GreenStep Twinning Visit successfully took place in Zaragoza, bringing together regional representatives and innovation stakeholders from across Europe for a week of collaboration, learning, and exchange.

Driving Regional Innovation

The visit officially opened with the Regional Innovation Forum, hosted by ZINNAE. Regions including Aragón, Asturias, the Canary Islands, and Norte Portugal presented their innovation ecosystems and strategic priorities.

Discussions focused on strengthening regional innovation strategies and identifying new opportunities to accelerate the green and digital transition of Energy Intensive Industries. Participants were also introduced to the GreenStep Matchmaking Platform, designed to connect regions, innovation actors, and industry partners across Europe.

Technology and Innovation in Action

A key highlight of the programme was the exploration of Aragón’s innovation ecosystem, starting with a visit to ITA – Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón. Participants gained valuable insights into applied research, technology development, and innovation services for industry.

Workshops on technology demonstrations and best practices, led by experts from IDONIAL Centro Tecnológico and the Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation, provided practical perspectives on bridging the gap between technological solutions and industrial needs.

The programme also included site visits to leading companies and technology centres:

  • INGEOBRAS
  • Carpemar
  • Aitiip Centro Tecnológico

These visits showcased how research, engineering, and industrial collaboration translate into real-world solutions.

Advancing Clean Energy Solutions

On the final day, participants visited Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, a key player in advancing hydrogen technologies and supporting the clean energy transition. The visit highlighted ongoing research activities, demonstration projects, and regional initiatives shaping the future of sustainable energy.

The programme concluded with a capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening regional skills and fostering long-term collaboration across European innovation ecosystems.

Strengthening Collaboration Across Europe

The GreenStep Twinning Visit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, interregional learning, and partnership building. From innovation infrastructure and industrial technologies to hydrogen and energy transition, the week demonstrated the power of collaboration in driving sustainable and innovative solutions.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants and partner organisations for their engagement and contributions in making this visit a meaningful and impactful experience.
